NFL pre-season: Tampa Bay defeat sees Russell Wilson singled out for criticism

By Sportsmail Reporter

Russell Wilson has been told his Seahawks ‘got to do better’ after a “poorly played” 26-10 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in San Francisco.

The Seattle quarterback faced criticism for his lack of conviction in the passing game during Sunday’s NFL pre-season clash, but Carroll said: ‘We have to do better. We all got to do better, we got to all improve.’

However, Carroll felt the Seahawks’ defence was inconsistent, and that Seattle was not sharp enough in the passing game.

Offensive weapons: Wilson (left) was targeted by his teammates just once – after three times in the first quarter

The 26-year-old quarterback was targeted by his team just once in the first quarter, after three times in the opening period, and perhaps needed more support to connect with his teammates.

Seattle were defeated 26-10 and came close to squandering a 10-point halftime lead, before Wilson settled down in the second half.

Seattle’s first preseason game was their second game of the year.

The Buccaneers out-gained the Seahawks by a yardage margin, 280-189. Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman passed for 182 yards and a touchdown.

Seattle are set to play St Louis next week.
